Community history

Records indicate that the area that is now Falls Church City was first settled in at around 1699. Falls Church was incorporated as a town in 1875 and became an independent city in 1948.

The city was named after an 18th century Church of England parish of the same name. Two other communities bear similar designations – East Falls Church in Arlington County and West Falls Church in Fairfax County. Both communities are located just a few minutes outside Falls Church City.
