Living in Friendship Heights and Chevy Chase

Friendship Heights is a compact, pedestrian-friendly village with an awesome location. The community is ideally located between Chevy Chase, Chevy Chase Village, Bethesda, Tenleytown, and Forest Hills. Nearby Chevy Chase is much larger, with the population scattered across several smaller villages within the town.

The village of Friendship Heights lies on the Maryland-D.C. line, with easy access to both areas by car or train. The village has its own Washington Metro station that lies on the Red Line. From here, residents can also take a connecting bus service to dozens of popular locations. This station is within easy walking distance of most of the homes in Friendship Heights, making it easy for residents to navigate the area without having to sit in traffic.


Friendship Heights has several major employers within its boundaries. The schools in Friendship Heights are overseen by the District of Columbia Public Schools.

GEICO Insurance Company, Ritz Carlton Hotels, and several radio stations have major offices or headquarters in Friendship Heights. In the 1990s, two more major employers entered the neighborhood: a new Chase Tower and the newly renovated Chevy Chase Center. The addition of these two employers sparked a wave of new development in the neighborhood, including new department stores, apartment buildings, offices, restaurants, and other boutique-style shops.

The Shops at Wisconsin Place is particularly well known for its impressive selection of top-notch Italian restaurants. In addition to the more upscale places to stop for dinner, there is also a Panera and Whole Foods where shoppers can grab a quick bite to eat on their way to or from the shops. There is a wide selection of shops here, but the majority of them cater to the more upscale clientele that is typically found living in Friendship Heights and Chevy Chase.

Real Estate Options in the Area

The median home price in Friendship Heights and Chevy Chase hovers at the seven-figure mark, though the typical home in Chevy Chase usually sells for more than the typical home in Friendship Heights.

However, the properties in Friendship Heights tend to be smaller on average than the homes in Chevy Chase, making them more expensive on a per square foot basis. And while the homes here tend to be on the smaller side, the interiors also tend to be up to date with modern decor, stainless steel kitchen appliances, and well-lit living spaces. Architectural styles vary and there’s a notable number of well-preserved and updated homes that date back to the 1920s.

Condos with 2 or 3 bedrooms dominate the housing market in Friendship Heights. There’s also a varied selection of row houses and townhomes. The real estate market here features more property types than Chevy Chase, which is composed mostly of single-family homes.
