Columbia Heights, Adams Morgan, and Mount Pleasant are some of Washington’s most ideally located neighborhoods, offering residents easy access to the rest of the metro area.

These neighborhoods are popular with everyone from students and working professionals to families. This area is extremely bike friendly and pedestrian friendly. Because of its ample public transportation, many residents choose to walk, bike, and take the metro instead of undergoing the expense of owning a car.

Columbia Heights has its own Metro station, the Columbia Heights station that lies on both the Green Line and the Yellow Line. This is one of the busiest suburban metro stops, with an average weekday ridership of around 11,800 from 2010 to 2016. This station is shared with the adjacent neighborhood of Mount Pleasant, and like many of the Washington Metro stations, it is filled with works of public art. Adams Morgan is served by the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan station on the Red Line.

Living in Columbia Heights, Adams Morgan and Mount Pleasant

With streets lined with historic buildings and a dynamic mix of shops, restaurants, bars, fitness centers, and entertainment venues, it’s not surprising why these neighborhoods are sought-after places to live.

Columbia Heights has a popular farmers’ market every Saturday morning in the summer and fall. Here, you can buy flowers, produce, crafts, and all kinds of ready-made food. Another local favorite is the Mt. Pleasant Farmers’ Market, held on the Plaza on Saturday mornings from May to December. Enjoy freshly baked pastry, fruits and vegetables, dairy products, flowers, and more, all from local and regional producers. Both markets have live music.

Adams Morgan also has a seasonal farmers market, which runs from 8 am to 2 pm on Saturdays.

There are plenty of parks and community spaces in the area, as well as a ton of public art. There’s Lamont Park in Mount Pleasant and Walter Pierce Park in Adams Morgan. Columbia Heights’ Banneker Community Center, which is just across the street from Howard University, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Meridian Hill Park located between Columbia Heights and Adams Morgan is a beautiful place to come and take a walk or have a picnic. Its signature, multilevel fountain is a stunning centerpiece surrounded by green spaces and tree-lined paths. This park is usually filled with joggers and Frisbee players, but on the weekends there are public yoga classes and a circle of African drums that anyone can enjoy.

Mount Pleasant is also right next to Rock Creek Park, which encompasses an area of approximately three square miles. One of the country’s oldest national parks, it includes equestrian trails and a horse center, a historic grist mill, playgrounds, a tennis stadium, a golf course, and more. Also nearby is the Smithsonian’s National Zoological Park.

Real estate in Columbia Heights, Adams Morgan, and Mount Pleasant is a blend of modern and historic buildings. Many of the newer buildings are also home to restaurants or bars.
